Abstract
The behavior of a rigid portal frame subjected to a pulse of loading is analyzed, making the assumption that the material has rigid-plastic characteristics. The method is illustrated by an example in which it is shown that a structure may deform in part of its motion with more than one degree of freedom. An examination then is made of the influence on the motion of strain hardening of the material and of large changes of structural geometry.
