Abstract
Using an experimental model of the [human] arterial circulation system, inflow of blood into polyethylene catheters following injection of contrast medium and isotonic saline solution was evaluated. The experiments included an analysis of the influence of density and viscosity of the flush solutions and the effect of catheters of different sizes with and without sideholes. [Intermittent flushing of intra-arterial catheters is generally used to avoid formation of blood clots from inflow of blood into the catheters which involves risk of thromboembolism.].This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
