A Rational Basis for Function Approximation

Abstract
Geometric arguments provide a basis for piecewise rational approximation over collections of regions of the type used in finite-element studies. The approximation is continous over the collection of regions and the rational basis functions provide a basis for linear functions over each element. Conic sides are analysed, and an alternative to isoparametric co-ordinates is described.
