Abstract
Powder feeder is used widely for laser surface treatment such as cladding and alloying. The stability of powder feeding is directly affecting the processing quality. This paper investigates the use of a pressure sensor for the continuous monitoring of powder flowrate and the incorporation of closed loop servo-control system for the on-line feedback control of powder flowrate. The stability of the powder feeding has been found much improved by the new feeding system especially during warm up period (about 30 minutes). The measurement of of powder particle velocity and establishment of a dynamic model of the powder feeding process are also presented. Keywords
