Abstract
The clinic benefits of the Holmium: YAG laser include a pronounced haemostatic effect, fibreoptic delivery system and a wide range of power-setting options. We review our initial experience in treating 48 patients with ureteric stones. Stones were located in the upper, middle and lower ureter in 27%, 21% and 52% of patients respectively. The Holmium laser successfully fragmented all calculi and there were no major complications. We have found the Holmium laser to be a safe, effective and reliable alternative for the management of urolithiasis. Keywords
