Paper Chromatographic Analysis of Free Amino Acids in Sterile and Fertile Strains of Callosobruchus maculatus1, 2

Abstract
Callosobruchus maculatus (F.), a stored grain pest, has normal and abnormal strains which are easily recognizable from one another because of the distinct color pattern of their elytra and pygidia (Arora and Pajni 1959, Gill et al. 1971). The abnormal strain has also been termed “active form” (Southgate et al. 1957, Casewell 1960) and “flight form” (Utida 1954). This abnormal strain reportedly suffers from impaired fertility (Utida 1954, Casewell 1960) or even complete sterility (Arora and Pajni 1959, Bawa et al. 1972a).
