Abstract
The phonon dispersion curve of a nearly solid liquid is shown to present a roton-like minimum, which corresponds to a translational motion of atoms in a small solid region of the liquid. This solidon, which should exist as an elementary excitation in superfluid 4He and as a fluctuation in 3He, gives a satisfactory description of a rotonKeywords
