Abstract
To the Editor: The report by Mazziotta et al. (Feb. 12 issue)1 shows that caudate glucose metabolism is reduced in some asymptomatic subjects at risk for Huntington's disease. At present, however, it is unknown which members of their at-risk population are likely to have inherited the abnormal gene.We have studied 23 persons at risk for Huntington's disease, using positron emission tomography (PET) with the fluorodeoxy-glucose tracer analogue and a polymorphic human DNA marker linked to the gene for Huntington's disease.2 3 4 After analysis of four large families, we were able to determine clearly the likelihood of inheritance of the gene . . .Keywords
