IS AGGLUTINATION AN EXPLANATION FOR THE OCCURRENCE AND FOR THE CHROMOMERE-TO-CHROMOMERE SPECIFICITY OF SYNAPSIS?

Abstract
The hypothesis is advanced that synapsis of homologous chromosomes is comparable to the agglutination of given kinds of bacteria or blood corpuscles. The surface of each chromomere may stimulate in the protoplasm the formation of specific antibodies, the molecules of which are adsorbed to the surface of the chromomere, which thus becomes specifically able to adhere to its partner chromomere.
