Abstract
A number of methods were employed to dilate a [human] nephrostomy track for the purpose of permanent drainage or percutaneous extraction of calculi. With the use of a specially made hole puncher that perforates the tip of the catheter cleanly, yet preserves its smooth conical tip, a method is described that allows Foley catheters of progressively larger size to be easily passed over a guidewire without fear of trauma. This technique was used to dilate nephrostomy tracks to 30-F [French] caliber, allowing removal of calculi as large as 8 .times. 10 mm.This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
