Abstract
Experimental observation has been made on the behavior of plasmas produced by counter-incident double laser-beam irradiation onto a thin-wire target of relatively large dimensions in a uniform magnetic field. The correlation between the initial spatial anisotropies with respect to both the ion energy and ion particle number and the subsequent behavior of plasma blob in a uniform magnetic field is studied by comparing single- and double-beam irradiation cases. The results indicate that the employment of counter-incident double laser-beam irradiation is very effective in suppressing plasma effusion across magnetic field lines due to the E×B drift mechanism, thus resulting in a well-defined symmetric plasma stream along magnetic field lines. Keywords
