Abstract
One hundred clinically normal subjects who had resting and postexercise phonocardiograms recorded at rest and after a double Master two-step exercise test in the supine and left lateral decubitus positions were followed up for 30 months. In four patients coronary artery disease developed within 30 months. The resting or postexercise third or fourth heart sound recorded in the supine or left lateral decubitus position did not correlate significantly with subsequent development of coronary artery disease.
