Prolongation of survival after circumflex artery ligation by treatment with massive doses of insulin

Abstract
Insulin was administered to dogs with ligation of the circumflex branch of the left coronary artery. Large doses (1) suppressed premature ventricular contractions, paroxysms of ventricular tachycardia, and ventricular fibrillation, (2) reduced electrocardiographic evidence of early myocardial damage, and (3) prolonged survival considerably. The massive doses of insulin did no apparent harm; blood glucose was easily kept at the normal level by continuous infusion of 10% glucose solution.
