Notizen: Hemmung des Wachstums von Lactobacillus leichmannii und Thermobacterium acidophilus R 26 durch 5-Brom-uracil

Abstract
Growth of L. leichmanii, which requires vit. B12 or desoxyribosides, and T. acidophilus R 26, which requires only desoxyribosides, could be suppressed by 5-bromo-uracil. This suppression in turn could be neutralized in the case of L. leichmanii by addition of thymine or thymidine after 24 hrs.'' incubation (competitive neutralization) but not by addition of vit. B12 or the desoxyribosides of cytosine, guanine, or hypoxanthine. Cytosine desoxyriboside can neutralize this growth suppression after 72 hrs. incubation. T. acidophilus R 26 behaves in a similar fashion and both bacterial spp. are similarly affected by 5-chloro-uracil. The function of folic acid, of thymine, and of vit. B12 and of thymidine appear to be related in a definite fashion.
