Abstract
Apoptotic cells are commonly observed in a broad range of tissues during mammalian embryonic and fetal development. In this excellent 1972 review, Kerr et al. describe the electron microscopic characteristics of dying cells and coined the term “apoptosis.” This Recommendation is of an article referenced in an F1000 Faculty Review also written by Anne Voss and Andreas Strasser.
