Abstract
EXFOLIATIVE cytology is a well established method which has been applied to an ever increasing number of organ systems, and has proven effective in the early diagnosis of carcinoma, particularly in the in situ stage. Recent emphasis on cytology has been directed to early detection of carcinoma of the oral mucosa. Koss1 describes a single instance in which cytology is used to diagnose carcinoma in situ of the larynx in a patient with "mere redness" of the vocal cords.
