Relative Transfer and Binding of Estradiol-6,7-3H and Estriol-16-14C by the Guinea Pig Placenta

Abstract
During the in situ perfusion of guinea pig placenta, estradiol-3H was extracted from the perfusion circulation more effectively than estriol-14C. However, estradiol- 3H was bound to placental tissue to a greater extent than estriol-14C, so that the transfer of the 2 compounds through the placenta to the mother was comparable. On equilibrium dialysis, estradiol-3H was bound to a greater extent by placental and renal tissue than estriol-14C. On fractionation, estrogens were distributed in the 1200 × g, 10,000 × g and supernatant, subcellular fractions, but the particulate fractions had significantly higher ratios of 3H to 14C. The relation of these 2 sets of observations and the possible effect on physiological activity are indicated. (Endocrinology74: 949, 1964)
