Effects of two mutations on production of a red plasmodial pigment in the myxomycete Didymium iridis

Abstract

Spectrophotometric and chromatographic studies reveal that two unlinked mutant genes, b¹ and b², partially block production of a red plasmodial pigment. As a result, mutant Plasmodia are cream-colored instead of brown.
