Abstract
From a cross cultural perspective this paper describes some of the legal and extra-legal strategies used to cope with a variety of practical problems associated with commercial prostitution, i.e., police-payoffs, venereal disease, pimping. Those strategies which appear to be most effective are identified with a view toward suggesting how some of these could be implemented. Keywords
