Abstract
This paper aims to draw attention to the common oral and dental diseases and conditions in childhood in the context of aetiological factors and to highlight how many of the risk factors for oral and dental ill health are common to other areas of chronic diseases among this age group: diet, hygiene, trauma, stress, and in older children and adolescents, smoking, alcohol use, and use of illegal substances. Suggestions as to how to address these common risk factors are proposed. Keywords
