Abstract
Schooling instincts are probably due to heritable nervous, morphological organizations after the manner of tropisms and sex instincts. When sexual dimorphism is lacking it is probable that sexual attraction is substituted by an instinct for indiscriminate schooling so that reproduction may be accomplished. Temporary breakdown in schooling may occur when seasonal dimorphism is displayed. Apparently there is an independent complex for indiscriminate schooling and differential sex orientation.
