Abstract
We report the case of a postmenopausal woman who had severe depression with psychotic features. She was treated over a period of 10 years with heavy psychotropic medication. Hormone replacement therapy alone replaced the medication and had an even better effect on her affective symptoms. Increasing serum oestradiol levels were correlated with improvement in mood. Keywords
