Experience with Reserpine in the Treatment of Alcoholism

Abstract
Reserpine in a dose of 1 mg a day and placebos were used in 180 alcoholic patients. Only those who attended the clinic for 8 weeks or longer (75 in all) were evaluated. Thirty-nine patients were treated with Serpasil and 36 with placebos. Patients were seen once a week and asked whether they took the medication and how much drinking they had done during the previous week. Although a sizable majority of both groups of patients seemed to improve, no decided difference between them was discernible.
