Abstract
The woody and herbaceous vegetation of the Fen may be classified into 3 types as affected by drainage: the central, least drained part is characterised by the preponderance of Betula pubescens and Quercus robur and an undergrowth of modified Molinietum; the intermediate part is dominated by Fraxinus excelsior with Eupatorium cannabinum in the ground layer; and the outermost best-drained part with Acer pseudoplatanus and a ground cover of Hedera helix. The existing population of trees has replaced a plantation of conifers established in 1800 and the woodland has since altered by stages which are discussed in the paper. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
