Abstract
Treating the soil under the spread of peach trees to kill the plum curculio, Conotrachelus nenuphar (Hbst.), in the larval and pupal stages is part of a project that has been under way at Fort Valley Ga., for a number of years in an effort to find an effective substitute for lead arsenate in the control of this insect. The object has been to eliminate the use of an insecticide on the fruit, and to confine the attack to the larval and pupal stages in the soil, Preliminary laboratory experiments with dichloroethyl ether, a material sparingly soluble in water, were included in the laboratory phases of this project in 1937. In 1938, work was carried on with this compound, both in the laboratory and with caged peach trees in the orchard. The purpose of this paper is to place on record the results of preliminary experiments with dichloroethyl ether applied as a spray to the soil for the control of the plum curculio. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
