Abstract
Nineteen simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers were developed for the pathogen and blue stain fungus Botryosphaeria rhodina. Eight pairs were found to be polymorphic among isolates collected from Pinus spp., whereas a further five pairs were polymorphic when isolates from Pinus spp. were compared with those from Eucalyptus spp. Nine isolates of B. rhodina collected from pines and eucalypts in South Africa, Mexico and Indonesia were used to demonstrate the range of the markers. Testing the markers yielded preliminary evidence that relationships among isolates are more closely linked to host than to geographical origin. Keywords
