Abstract
ALTHOUGH ITS incidence and mortality are low, pediatric empyema can be associated with considerable morbidity.1,2 Its optimal therapy remains controversial. In the early phase of scant fibrin, drainage and antibiotics are usually sufficient, and in advanced disease, thoracoscopy or even thoracotomy may be required.3-20 This study reviews an empyema protocol in which radiographic findings are used to determine the initial therapy, which is progressed stepwise until resolution of the collection. Keywords
