Abstract
Nuclear sequences in germinating aeciospores of Inyo Peridermium filamentosum and Peridermium stalactiforme were studied by Giemsa staining and microscopic analysis. Germinating aeciospores of the Inyo Peridermium produced germ tubes that became monokaryotic by septation following nuclear divisions, while germ tubes of P. stalactiforme remained nonseptate and dikaryotic. These in vitro studies suggest that the Inyo Peridermium may be autoecious since it has a nuclear cycle similar to the proposed endo-type cycle of autoecious Peridermium pini and autoecious members of the Cronartium coleosporioides complex. Peridermium stalactiforme from Jeffrey pine is cytologically similar to P. stalactiforme from lodgepole pine. Keywords
