Abstract
Guinea pigs were sensitized by an intraperit. injn. of 0.25 ml. of normal horse serum. After 12 days the animals were shocked by a parenteral dose of horse serum. Three animals received 2 mg. of rutin intraperit. 30-45 mins. before anaphy-lactic shock was produced. These 3 plus 5 others were given intracardially 0.05 ml. of normal horse serum per 100 gm. body wt. The 3 rutin-injd. animals developed no symptoms, whereas the 5 controls died in anaphylactic shock. Five animals received 1 mg. of rutin intraperit. 30-45 min. before shocking, and 6 animals were used as controls. All 11 animals were then given 0.5 ml. of horse serum intracardially. The rutinized animals developed no symptoms, whereas the 6 controls died. 9 animals were given 1 mg. of rutin in 0.1 ml. of propylene glycol intraperit. 30-45 min. before receiving a minimal lethal dose of histamine, while 9 controls received only propylene glycol. Although rutin protected the animals against the fatal effects of anaphylactic shock, it did not against those of histamine shock. Keywords
