Representation of magnetic characteristic, including hysteresis, using Preisach's theory

Abstract
A magnetic material is modelled using a theory of Preisach, in which the material is considered as an assembly of dipoles, each of which exhibits a square-loop hysteresis characteristic determined by two independent parameters. By selecting a suitable distribution of these among the dipoles, a mathematical formulation of the hysteretic characteristics of a range of soft and hard magnetic materials as a function of the applied field strength is obtained, and can be efficiently implemented on a computer. Measured hysteresis curves can be readily reproduced with an accuracy giving less than 10% error in predicted values of flux density.
