THE WORLD CRISIS IN POPULATION GROWTH

Abstract
The cumulative rate of world population growth is the result of reduced death rates. Figures are given for the world, the USA and a number of undeveloped countries. Prospects for a rapid reduction in births are discussed by areas. An account is given of programs in a number of underdeveloped countries. Future growth rates and ultimate world population are tentatively forecast. If by 1990 average births per woman were cut to replacement only, world population might be stabilized at 6.74 billion by 2060.
