Abstract
High angular momentum states in Nd144 are studied via the γ rays produced in the Te130(18O, 4n)144Nd reaction. In addition to the previously known sequence of states built on the 31− state, we have observed another negative-parity sequence built on the 3395 keV 9− state, which is apparently of a two quasiparticle nature. These two negative-parity sequences probably interact and mix significantly. The present Nd144 results raise questions regarding the interpretation of medium spin states of Nd146 in terms of strong octupole correlations. Keywords
