Abstract
A standard lamp is described which provides a blackbody radiation of 12000K+or-1.5% with a nominal focal ratio f/17 for wavelengths from the visible down to 260 nm for a period of 1 ms. Reproducibility and stability of the radiation intensity is maintained within 3% using the principle of radiation balance. The radiation is emitted from a homogeneous isothermal plasma without passing through extended cold boundary layers, hence the continuous spectrum does not contain any emission or absorption lines in the whole spectral range. The lamp is fed from a customary pulse forming network and is independent of any pumping or cooling apparatus. Keywords
