Abstract
Hoarseness was discussed from 2 points of view, the noise component in relation to harmonic component, and frequency variation. Mechanism of noise production in hoarse voice was explained by turbulent air flow created by a constant leakage of air through the glottis at a high velocity. Reduction of the harmonic component associated with an incomplete closure of the glottis was schematically demonstrated by mathematical computation. A certain relation was revealed on the vibragram between the vocal cord lesion and the kind of hoarseness either with or without pitch perturbation. Keywords
