Abstract
A quantitative analysis of the minimum CW CO2 laser power required for the drilling of thin stainless steel sheets in vacuum and in air is reported. These results are interpreted theoretically in terms of a simple cylindrical source model. A nomograph is given for the prediction of critical powers for CO2 laser drilling of other metals. Keywords
