Abstract
Decapitated floral and vegetative stems of L. h. and L. philippinense jormosanum were treated with indoleacetic acid-lanolin paste. The latter responded in 10 days to 3 weeks by forming small protuberances on the upper 2 to 2.5 cm. of stem, owing to developing adventitious roots. The former developed fewer of such roots, but responded strikingly by producing buds in the axils of the upper 2 or 3 leaves and occasionally from the callus of the cut surface. In some cases, more than 1 bud developed in an axil. Check plants showed no response. 2-3 weeks after the buds appear, and subsequently, they resemble the bulbils which form naturally near the bases of the stems of this species, and may produce roots.
