Abstract
The Davydov splittings are calculated for the 3800‐Å state in anthracene. A point‐dipole model is used which represents each excited molecular state by a classical dipole. This allows the vibrational sublevels and depolarization forces of an excited state to be included self‐consistently in the dielectric function. The numerical splittings are in reasonable agreement with experiment. Keywords
