Abstract
A study is made of the suitability of perfluoromethylcyclohexane and perfluorodecalin as matrix in electronic spectroscopy of radiation-produced radical cations, using alkane radical cations as test ions. The intrinsic absorption of the irradiated pure matrices is small and not very photosensitive. Alkane radical cations are produced in good yields by gamma-irradiation and may be eliminated selectively by illumination, thus enabling the observation of pure electronic spectraKeywords
