Abstract
The pressure relations in the vascular system of M. glutinosa show a low arterial pressure level correlating with the existence of a lacunar circulation. The average pressure in the dorsal aorta ranged from 3-8 mm Hg with a pulse pressure of around 25 mm H2O. The average pressure drop across the gills was approximately 4 mm Hg. The gills take an active part in the forward propulsion of arterialized blood. This is accomplished by contraction of striated muscular elements in the gills and gill ducts. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
