Abstract
The factors causing alcoholic liver disease or cirrhosis are discussed. Morphologic studies support the toxic theories of alcohol, but do not define the role of nutritional imbalance in cirrhosis. Ultra-structural examination must be quantitated and combined with biochemical assay of proteins, enzymes and cofactors in order to define the exact effect of alcohol on the liver. Keywords
