Smith; and OEDALEOCERUS (p. 43), type Solenopsis angulata Emery; with a key to these subgenera and keys to the spp. in each. S. (S.) bondari*, redescribed; S. gayi and var. fazi, figured; S. g. ssp. bruesi* (p. 52), Peru; S. geminata* (=S. g. var. nigra Forel), a typically West Indian sp., key to subspp., redescription of forms; S. g. ssp. rufa* (Jerdon.) Under the subg. Euophthalma are arranged the following: S. andina*; S. globularia* ( = S. g. ssp. lucayensis v. curta Forel) ; S. g. ssp. littoralis* (p. 113), Alabama (type) and Mississippi; S. g. ssp. steinheili Forel (= S. g. var. borinquenensis Wheeler, S. g. var. cubaensis Wheeler) ; S. huachucana*; S. macrops*; S. metanotalis*, redescribed; S. m. ssp. shiptoni* (S. s. Forel) (p. 127) ; S. nigella*, redescribed; S. n. ssp. gensterblumi* (S. picta ssp. g. Forel, =S. n. ssp. praeva-lens Sant.) (p. 132); S. oculata*; S. silvestrii*, redescribed. In subg. Diagyne, S. succinea Emery ( = S. inermiceps Wheeler & Mann). Subg. Oedaleocerus is confined to S. angulata*. The distribution of the species shows that 20% are peculiar to North America, 20% are indeterminate, occurring either in the Antilles or Central America or ranging over both continents, and 60% are indigenous to South America. The author favors the Antillean origin of the group.
