Abstract
A fatal case of Listeria monocytogenes septicaemia and encephalitis is described. The infection was associated with steroid therapy given for necrotizing cutaneous vasculitis. Agglutinating antibodies were not detectable in the patient's serum. Reasons for the failure of apparently appropriate antibiotic therapy are discussed. Keywords
