Congenital (Infantile) Esotropia: Psychiatric Aspects

Abstract
There is increasing evidence that the general apperance of the child plays a profound role in the developing parent-child relationship. The manifest and obvious ocular misalignment present in the child with congenital (infantile) esotropia is one barrier to the eye contact necessary for a proper relationship to take place. The early correction of esotropia removes the barrier to the normal development of parent-child relationship.
