Abstract
Librarians constantly seek ways to live within their budgets. Some may think a magic formula will take the uncertainty out of decision making, others that there is no rational way to decide which titles to subscribe to, which to cancel, which to keep. The purpose of this paper is to examine whether or not a connection can be found between two considerations that come into play when evaluating journal titles for retention or cancellation in a mathematics library. These are the "cents per thousand characters" (cents/1000 characters) factor and the "impact factor."Keywords
