Hemangiomatosis of the colon

Abstract
Summary and Conclusions A case of disseminated atypical capillary hemangiomatosis of the colon and rectum is reported which was successfully treated by total colectomy. The tiny blood clots which were seen at proctoscopy and appeared to be attached to the mucosa were not completely evaluated during the first examination; they proved to be hemangiomas which were recognized later and fulgurated. The bleeding was so excessive that, at first, it was believed to originate at some point in the colon beyond the reach of the sigmoidoscope. It was not until after coloscopy was performed that it could be assured that the entire colon was involved.
