In July 1949 and 1950 fauna was examined in top in. between tide-marks. Sand was coarse, beach exposed to strong wave action and fauna poor. Predominant were amphipods of genera Haustorius, Bathyporeia and Pontocrates, and numbers per sq. m. were counted of juveniles and immature and adult males and females. In 1950, below low-water neaps, there were many fly larvae and pupae, which had come presumably from driftweed above high-water mark. There were some polychaetes, mainly Nephthys and Nerine, but no lamellibranchs or echino-derms. Fresh water was of negligible effect on salinity and fauna of beach 20 paces from brook.
