Effect of Fibrinolytic Activation on Survival and Cerebral Damage Following Periods of Circulatory Arrest

Abstract
Experiments presented show that dogs given Varidase, a fibrinolytic activator, can withstand circulatory arrest for longer periods of time than control animals. Fifteen control animals were subjected to 10 or 15 minutes of circulatory arrest and only one survived. Fourteen animals were given Varidase plus human plasma and twelve survived. Additional evidence indicating a coagulation defect during circulatory arrest is presented.
