Abstract
Mineralization of developing human dental calculus was studied with optical and electron microscopy. The material studied was collected on polyester strips which were attached to the teeth of human beings known to form dental calculus rapidly. Mineralization occurred 1st in an organic matrix between microorganisms, then on the surface of the bacteria, and later inside them. The calcifiable organic matrix undergoes a series of chemical and morphological changes prior to mineralization. Keywords
