Abstract
The chloric acid method for the determination of total and protein-bound iodine in serum has been modified in order to yield greater speed of performance and higher precision. The chief features of these modifications are: (1) minimizing of transfers of reactants; (2) use of a single-cell, direct reading photoelectric colorimeter, with colorimeter tubes in which the catalytic reduction of ceric ion is accomplished; and (3) use of the time necessary to attain an O.D. difference of 0.240 between the blank and "0.0% [mu]g." standard to begin the reading of standards and unknowns. With these modifications, 1 technician can readily perform (daily) a sum of 40 analyses of total and protein-bound iodine in serum in addition to the determinations of the PBI in a control serum, a blank, and 5 standard solutions. Keywords
