Abstract
CHILD abuse has recently become a subject of great legislative interest. Within three short years — 1963 to 1965 — a total of 47 states enacted laws that called for the reporting of injuries inflicted on children. It is of interest to view these legislative efforts in the context of the dual issues of child protection and the rights and responsibilities of parents. Criminal law traditionally has forbidden the infliction of injury and cruelty by one person upon another, but it was not until 1874 that a court in New York City dealt specifically with the issue of the abuse . . .Keywords
